The Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA)
AFCEA, founded in 1946, is the international association for command, control, communications, computer, and intelligence (C4I) professionals. Its over 19,000 individual members, in more than 130 chapters worldwide, are government, military and industry leaders, managers, and technicians in computer, communications, electronics and related disciplines that support command, control, acquisition, intelligence, logistics, research and development, and other business functions. Also, there are more than 13,000 corporate associates. Among these companies are the world's leading designers, planners, integrators, and manufacturers of C4I systems.
AFCEA plays a key role in national security by encouraging and facilitating ethical, interactive dialogue and cooperative relations among the Department of Defense, civil government, and private industry. AFCEA International and local chapters sponsor conferences, exhibitions, technical symposia and panels, paper presentations, and speakers dealing with national security and C4I issues.
Located around the world, AFCEA’s more than 140 chapters give engineers, programmers, managers, government officials and military personnel continuing opportunities to exchange ideas about communications, intelligence, imaging and information systems technologies. Nearly one-half of AFCEA’s chapters conduct symposia and seminars in addition to other chapter activities. The Dayton-Wright Chapter subscribes to the same mission, vision, and values as AFCEA International.
AFCEA Dayton-Wright Chapter
The Dayton-Wright Chapter "gives back" to the Miami Valley Region through its mechanical education assistance awards focused on encouraging interest, study, and careers in the scientific and engineering disciplines necessary for sustaining the national defense capability of the United States. Since 1991, the chapter has contributed over $1,000,000 in support of: scholarships for undergraduate students pursuing technical degrees; scholastic assistance to military enlisted personnel also pursuing technical studies; Science Teaching Tools Awards to outstanding elementary through high school teachers; awards to Air Force Institute of Technology students for research excellence; outreach programs to minority junior and senior high school students encouraging and preparing them for technical undergraduate study; sponsorship of area high school students in AFCEA’s annual National High School Science Fair Award Competition; and annual contributions to our Dayton-Wright Chapter Scholarship Endowment within the Dayton Foundation which ensures a sustained, Dayton-Wright capability for encouraging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) studies vital to AFCEA-supported National Defense objectives.
AFCEA’s Dayton-Wright Chapter has over six hundred members and has won numerous awards recognizing its success in sponsoring annual InfoTech Conferences which feature distinguished speakers, technical presentations, and discussions among government, military, and industry conferees, as well as state-of-the-art C4I hardware and software technology exhibits from industry and government. InfoTech Conferences also highlight the Miami Valley as a National Center of Excellence for information technology.
